The clutch, the actuator, and me. Maserati.

Image
Rivet came loose on clutch plate, had the repair done at Loudoun County Exotics in Sterling, VA. The shop said the clutch failure caused the actuator to break. The clutch was 10 years old, and I had it checked for replacement just last year at the Alfa Romeo dealership, the sensor said only 20% wear. That's because (as we found when we pulled the clutch) the sensor was bad. Besides the point, said the shop, this sort of rivet failure can happen at any point, and it affects many brands of cars because they all use the same clutch supplier (they just fixed this on a BMW). At least LOCO knew what they were talking about and fixed it right.

Replacing Maserati battery

Image
I was having some warning lights come on and I thought it may be due to low voltage on my 10 year old battery. Talking to the local battery service shops, it was a no go, one place even told me "don't bring your car here, we don't have the labor for it, go to the dealer". Well the dealer is far away, ridiculously overpriced and backed up for 2 weeks. So I planned to replace it myself and called "Interstate All Battery Center" in Redwood City. Not only did they know exactly the right battery, they offered to come to my house and install it. Turns out their tech was very experienced with Maserati and had been replacing batteries in them for over 20 years. He handles all the calls for exotic cars, knew all the right tricks, checked under the hood for a charge port, and rigged it up so he was able to do the replacement without loosing power to the car. I was very impressed I was able to get a Maserati battery expert in my garage for just a $100 service charge.
